I think the judges at the Art Show at the Dog Show must like those Shannon Down Whippet models I use! LOL! "Sitting Pretty" (Shannon Down Blazing Star") was awarded Best Entry Depicting A Whippet for 2011! Thank-you again Ed and Jo Meister, and of course thanks to Shannon and Krystal Lyons of Shannon Down Whippets in Richburg, SC for providing me with such gorgeous "super models"!

I was just notified that my work - "In Full Swing" is on the cover of the August 27, 2010 issue of The Chronicle of the Horse magazine! I'm just thrilled about it. I am so honored to have 2 covers for The Chronicle now! If you are old enough, you probably remember that every barn worth its salt seemed to have the bathroom walls papered with a collection of Chronicle covers. I suppose that might sound odd to some people, but we all loved The Chronicle and read it cover to cover each week. No one wanted to throw old copies away - they were like a treasure trove of facts and info on everyone who was anyone in the horse world. Papering walls with favorite covers was quite a tribute to this venerable and important old magazine, and if anyone had told me way back then, that my work would be on the cover even once, I would have laughed at how impossible that dream would have sounded. So - there you are! Sometimes, dreams come true! more than once! LOL!
Thank-you, Chronicle of the Horse for a wonderful thrill! And, may you go on forever!

I'm thrilled to find out that I have two works accepted in the American Academy of Equine Art 2010 Fall Open Juried Show in KY! "Circle Left - Thirty Meters" and "Her First Go" will be making the trip in September. I'm so pleased and honored to show in these exhibits. The show will run concurrently with the Spring show, which is unusual. But, with the large equestrian shows and events going on this year, there is plenty of interest in all things equine! The fall show runs from 9/18/10 through 10/22/10 and will be held at the Scott County Arts and Cultural Center/Gallery in Georgetown, KY. For more information on the show, you can contact the AAEA in Lexington.

The Lead Pair ( shown on my home page) is one of my favorite works and it won a coveted spot in the AAEA Spring Invitational show in KY. With the WEG and the Rolex, as well as all the other equestrian events going on in KY this year, I'm thrilled to have a piece in such a prestigious show! Info about the show is on my Events page and if you are headed anywhere near the area this year, try to see the show. It will run until November, if I remember correctly and we hope will be seen by many visitors to KY in 2010.

I just found out that all three of my entries for the New Jersey Equine Artists' Association were accepted! What great news! I'll be sending Indigo Friesian, His Fastest Pony, and Two Horsepower. If you have never been to this great show and live in the vicinity of northern NJ, you should put it on your calendar! The Somerset Art Associations gallery is wonderful and the art is beautifully displayed, and it's in the heart of NJ horse country so the trip itself is quite scenic. Check my "events" page and you can find info on this great gallery.

I just found out my piece -"His Fastest Pony" has won the Sam Savitt Award from the American Academy of Equine Art! It is being shown in their fall show in Lexington, KY. When I was a little girl, and even not-so-little, Sam Savitt was an idol of mine and to win an award in his name is just such an amazing honor. I must say that I am humbled by the whole thing and wish so much that he was still among us so that I could learn more from him. This will be a day I remember always!

I've finally gotten Well In Hand ready to start the background work. There are plenty of small things to clean up and edit a bit in the main body area but they need to dry a bit before I do more, so now it's time to start the background. I hate to admit that landscapes are not one of my strong suites, but hey - it is as it IS! So this could take a bit of time. But, next time you see this painting there will be lots of green starting to show!
