Well In Hand moves along!

I guess some of you are wondering what in the world happened to this painting. It seems like no progress has been made! Well, it seems like that to me, too! :-) This is a large piece with a lot going on and I've painted for the better part of all day every day for 2 weeks and to look at it, you can hardly tell anything much has been done! But, I thought I'd go ahead and post what I have accomplished so that anyone who was interested could see. It's hard to light well to photograph, so just bear in mind that the background at this point is bright white not grey and so all the colors are actually a bit more pronounced than they appear here. Hope to post more progress soon! Thanks for "riding along" with me on this one!

Well In Hand in progress

I started this painting of a 4-in-hand during a competition some months ago. I found that I needed to work on several other pieces in order to get them where they had to be on time and have just now come back to it. I'm afraid I left it at the point where most of the "hard" work had to take place - things that couldn't be "fudged" too much and so I've got a lot to do in a relatively short time. I hope to enter it in an upcoming exhibit and I think my timing is off! Having to do the most critical and detailed parts when I have the least time was NOT a smart thing to do! But, things are as they are and so I'll march along! The hardest part of this piece has been the carriage wheels. Those of you familiar with such things will know that in this sort of conveyance the spokes of the wheels are sharply canted to the outside. This makes painting them a nightmare! :-) The carriage is in the middle of a turn and the body of the carriage is therefore slightly slanted to one side as the springs absorb the shock, and then the wheels are turned, and the spokes are going off to the outside! arg! what was I THINKING? :-) So, hopefully you'll see some good progress as I go along. You may hear a "whoosh" noise on the day I finish those wheels and I exhale LOUDLY! :-)
